Founded in 1986 by Dr. Faan Burger, Drs Burger Radiologists began with a single vision: to provide the Gauteng community with world-class diagnostic clarity. Over the last four decades, that vision has grown into a leading network of 10 specialised medical sites, becoming a cornerstone of healthcare in the region.

Qualifications: M.Med Rad.D (UOFS) Special Interests: GIT Radiology, MSK Imaging Joined: 2002

Dr Wim Burger joined Burger Radiologists in 2002 after graduating from the University of the Orange Free State (UOFS). He is a General Radiologist with a special interest in GIT Radiology and Musculoskeletal (MSK) imaging, bringing over two decades of dedicated clinical experience to the practice.

Dr Philip Fourie completed his MBChB in 1985 and qualified as a Diagnostic Radiologist in 1990. He joined Burger Radiologists in 1991 and has been a cornerstone of the practice ever since. With a broad interest in General Radiology, Dr Fourie also plays an active role in Practice Management, contributing to the long-term stability and leadership of the group.

Dr Gert Steyn qualified as a Diagnostic Radiologist in 2006 and joined Burger Radiologists the following year. A keen General Radiologist, he has developed a particular passion for Breast Imaging and brings both technical expertise and a thorough, patient-focused approach to this specialised field.

Dr Michele Bove is a General Radiologist with a keen interest in Head and Neck Imaging as well as Body Imaging. After completing his postgraduate quantification training at Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, he joined the practice in early 2017. Dr Bove has a strong enthusiasm for cutting-edge imaging technology and is committed to assisting both clinicians and patients with precision and care.

Dr Wessel Vermeulen qualified as a Diagnostic Radiologist at the University of Pretoria in 2008 and joined Burger Radiologists in 2009. In 2018, he completed the prestigious European Diploma in Neuroradiology (EDiNR), further cementing his expertise in this highly specialised field. He also has a strong interest in Musculoskeletal MRI and Prostate MRI.

Dr Stefan Steyn qualified as a Diagnostic Radiologist in 2008 and joined Burger Radiologists in 2009. A skilled General Radiologist, he has developed particular expertise in Interventional Radiology. He completed the PLANET neuro intervention course and is an accredited Neurointerventionist registered with SANIS. Dr Steyn also has a dedicated interest in Musculoskeletal imaging.

Dr Francois Potgieter is an accredited Neurointerventionist registered with SANIS. He completed his Radiology training in 2007 and obtained a postgraduate Diploma in General Interventional Radiology in 2008 at UOFS. He also completed the PLANET neuro intervention course and joined Burger Radiologists in 2010 as an Interventional Radiologist. Dr Potgieter equally enjoys the broad challenges presented by General Radiology.

Dr Toby de Beer joined the practice in 1991 after qualifying as a Diagnostic Radiologist in 1989. One of the most experienced members of the team, he is a General Radiologist with decades of clinical practice behind him, and has a particular interest in Practice Management, contributing meaningfully to the operational leadership of Burger Radiologists.

Dr Neil Bellew joined Burger Radiologists in 2011. He has a strong interest in Musculoskeletal Imaging and completed a South African Musculoskeletal Imaging Fellowship in the year following his qualification. In addition to his clinical role, Dr Bellew actively participates in the management of administrative matters within the practice.

Dr Werner Steyn joined Burger Radiologists in 2013 and has since built a distinguished subspecialty profile. In 2016, he completed a Neuroradiology Diploma (EDiNR) through the European College of Neuroradiology, and continues to maintain a strong interest in Musculoskeletal imaging alongside his neuroradiology practice.

Dr Mike Wilson qualified as a Radiologist in 1991 and joined the practice in 1993. He is an experienced General Radiologist who enjoys all facets of the discipline. A forward-thinking clinician, Dr Wilson has developed a special interest in the application of Artificial Intelligence in Radiology — an area of growing importance in modern diagnostic imaging.

Dr Heleen Hanekom qualified as a Diagnostic Radiologist in 2017 and joined Burger Radiologists in 2018. She has a very keen interest in Breast Imaging and brings a careful, compassionate approach to this sensitive and clinically important subspecialty.

Qualifications: MMed (Rad D), FCR (Diag Rad) Special Interests: Cardiovascular, Thoracic & Neuro Imaging Joined: 2022

Dr Jacques Badenhorst completed his medical degree at the University of Pretoria in 2012 and finished his radiology training in 2022, obtaining both his MMed (Rad D) and FCR (Diag Rad) qualifications. He brings a keen interest in cardiovascular, thoracic and neuroimaging to the practice, representing the next generation of specialist radiologists at Burger Radiologists.

Dr Jennifer Edwards is an experienced General Radiologist who joined Burger Radiology in 2006. She enjoys all aspects of Radiology but has a particular interest in Cross Sectional Imaging and Paediatric Imaging, bringing a broad and well-rounded clinical perspective to the practice and to the patients she serves.

Dr Eric Schmid qualified as a Diagnostic Radiologist in 1994 and joined Burger Radiologists in 1995, following a six-month Consultant post at Helen Joseph Hospital. He remained part of the university staff for a number of years as an honorary part-time lecturer in Radiology. Dr Schmid completed a UCSF Neuromuscular mini-Fellowship in San Francisco and has a strong interest in Neuroimaging and Body Intervention. He is also passionate about teaching prospective Radiologists and Radiographers.

Dr Arno Cilliers qualified as a Radiologist in 2016 and joined the practice in 2017. He has a special interest in Urogenital and Abdominal imaging and completed an MRI Prostate mini-fellowship with the American College of Radiology (ACR) in 2019, further enhancing his expertise in this technically demanding area.

Dr Annelize Coetzé joined the Burger Radiology Practice in 2002 and has established herself as a specialist in hepatobiliary and abdominal imaging. She brings a high level of expertise to the imaging of hepatic conditions and continues to be a trusted resource for referring clinicians seeking detailed, accurate diagnostic assessments in this area.
